Minn Kota's manual for this motor asks for at least a 105 amp-hour rating and says the motor will run on any lead-acid, deep-cycle marine 12-volt battery. Trojan rate the SCS225 at 130 amp-hours at the 20-hour rate, 25 amp-hours above it. Minn Kota do not say which discharge rate their figure applies to, and Trojan publish four figures for this battery: 105 at the 5-hour rate, 118 at 10, 130 at 20 and 144 at 100. The 20-hour rate is the conventional marine rating and the one compared. Minn Kota's website battery guide asks for 110 amp-hours rather than the manual's 105, and they have not reconciled the two; at 130 this battery clears both. Trojan give reserve minutes at two currents for this battery — 225 minutes at 25 amps and 57 at 75 — and the 50 amps Minn Kota state as this motor's maximum draw falls between them. Trojan publish no figure at that current, so how long it would last there is not something either company states. Minn Kota's battery-guidance table recommends AGM or lithium at 100 amp-hours for a 55 lb motor, alongside the manual sentence quoted above. Neither company has named the other and nobody has tested the pairing.
