Any 36-volt battery that is not LiFePO4 — a lead-acid, AGM or gel trolling bank — must not be connected to this charger's bank two. Unlike bank one, which is selectable between LiFePO4, lead-acid and AGM on a front-panel button, bank two has no chemistry selection at all.

Epoch's own DC-to-DC charger and Epoch's own pack. The unit's output is "One compatible 36V auxiliary battery" with selectable types including 36 V LiFePO4, which this pack is. A class, not this model: Epoch name a voltage and a chemistry rather than a SKU, so the row is as specific as they were.

Epoch's own charger and Epoch's own pack. Bank two of this unit is 36 V at 10 A and Epoch state it takes a "Compatible 36V LiFePO4 battery only" — this pack is 36 V LiFePO4. It names a class and not this model, so the row establishes that the pack is inside the description bank two gives, not that Epoch tested this pairing.

The figures below line up. Neither manufacturer states that this pack runs this device — that is our reading of what each of them published separately, not a claim by either of them or a test by us. Even where every stated figure agrees, these can still decide it:
- The device’s published draw is usually a peak, not the load it holds — the two numbers are not the same kind of quantity
- A maker’s amp-hour minimum and their reserve-capacity minimum can give different answers about the same battery
- Conditions attached to the chemistry, such as a speed limit for running on lithium
- Whether the pack may be wired in series at all, where the device needs 24 or 36 volts
- The charger, which both makers put conditions on and neither supplies
- Case size, hold-down and terminal type — fitting the space is not being secured in it

The motor's maker asks for 100 Ah minimum for a lead-acid or AGM battery, and 50 Ah to 100 Ah where the battery is lithium, and the battery must be able to supply 60 A of continuous current. This pack is rated 100 Ah and 120 A continuous.
Neither company has named the other, and the two figures are different kinds of number: Minn Kota's is a peak draw, Epoch's is a continuous rating.
The comparison therefore runs the cautious way round, since a pack that can supply its figure indefinitely covers a motor's worst moment; read the other way it would mean nothing.
Epoch do publish this pack in a collection titled "Lithium Batteries for Minn Kota Trolling Motors", which names the motor brand but no model.

The manufacturer states these chargers must not be used with this battery:
Epoch's page for the charger says: "This charger is intended for compatible 24V LiFePO4 batteries. Do not use it on 12V batteries, 36V batteries, 48V batteries, or lead-acid / AGM batteries unless Epoch confirms compatibility for your exact battery and application." The prohibition is conditional: Epoch leave a route open, which is to ask them about a particular battery and use. Nothing on either product's page confirms these pairings, so what is published is a refusal.
