Bluetooth range caveat
Metal or seawater can cut the Bluetooth range unusably

“The proximity of other electrically conducting elements, such as the metal chassis of a vehicle or seawater around the hull if a boat, may reduce the range of the Bluetooth signal to an unacceptable level.”

RDW's type-approval communication, signed at Zoetermeer on 7 September 2023 by R.F.R. Clement. The box ticked is "approval extended", not "approval granted", and the stated reason for the extension is "Design and documentation update". It names SmartShunt 500A/50mV, 1000A/50mV and 2000A/50mV and not the 300A. The tests were carried out by TÜV Rheinland Nederland B.V., accredited to ISO 17025, under test report NL23VZDR 001 dated 2 August 2023. The appendix limits what it covers: the electrical system rated voltage is "12 or 24 V neg. ground", and "ESA is Not Safety Related. Radiated Immunity Tests not applicable" — so this is an electromagnetic compatibility approval and says nothing about the safety of the unit.

A second, separate RDW approval for the 500 A alone, under revision 07 of Regulation 10 rather than revision 06, and this one is "approval granted" rather than extended. The 500 A therefore holds approvals under both revisions; the 1000 A and 2000 A hold only the older one. It is a fresh test, not the 2023 one carried over: the technical service is Kiwa Assurance B.V. (the R06 approval's was TÜV Rheinland Nederland), test report 20260164RPT01 dated 6 May 2026, and the communication was signed at Zoetermeer on 17 June 2026 by B. Loen. The appendix gives the electrical system rated voltage as "12V or 24V neg. ground" and places no restriction on vehicle type. Regulation 10 is about electromagnetic compatibility and says nothing about the safety of the unit.

Each standard listed is an independent claim about this specific product — one standard does not imply compliance with another.
