Lithium Ion Batteries

Published by American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC)

The standard itself, at American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC)

What this standard covers, in our words

The marine standard for selecting and installing lithium ion batteries on boats, including lithium ion battery system design. It is an INSTALLATION standard for the vessel, not a product certification for the pack: a battery certified to a product standard still has to be installed to this one, and neither is evidence for the other. First ratified 2022; revised 2025.

This is our summary, not the standard’s own wording — the text itself is published by American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) and it is the document to read before relying on anything here.

Each product below is listed against this standard alone, with the kind of evidence shown beside it — meeting or being certified to this standard does not imply compliance with any other.
