The statute behind it, quoted from the U.S. Code rather than from the agency, because their page does not cite it: 17 U.S.C. § 105(a), "Copyright protection under this title is not available for any work of the United States Government" (govinfo.gov, USCODE-2023-title17-chap1-sec105). Their recall-specific sentence is the one this catalogue leans on and it is unusually generous: "You may freely copy and distribute recall notices, including photographs of recalled items, without permission. Any other use of photographs found in recall notices and elsewhere on CPSC websites may require permission from a copyright holder." ORIGINAL NOTE, KEPT: The CPSC's own terms state: "Web page text, brochures, and posters presented on CPSC websites are public information. You may freely distribute, copy, or link to any of this information. However, the information may not be used in a way that states or implies CPSC endorsement. If you distribute, copy or link to any of this information, please credit CPSC." Attribution is requested rather than legally required (the content is public domain), and we attribute anyway. CPSC's own seal/logo is not addressed by this notice and is treated as RESTRICTED (avoid implying endorsement) rather than assumed reusable.
